7 Links Challenge and 7 Random Facts

My mate Deeone Higgs recently undertook the 7 Links Challenge.

I have to admit I was excited about  Deeone’s post about the challenge. He had cleverly perked up my interest, by telling me that he had a surprise in for me.

Well after checking out his post I knew what he meant. He has bestowed the honour of nominating me for the 7 Links Challenge. He had also nominated me for his 7 Random Facts challenge.

I was absolutely thrilled to be nominated by Deeone and was grateful for his appreciation of my work. So, I left a comment at Deeone’s post telling him how excited I was at being nominated.

For those who don’t know about this, a blogger is awarded a nomination to do the 7 Links Challenge, which involves looking back at 7 of our posts belonging the following categories:

  1. Most beautiful post
  2. Most popular post
  3. Most controversial post
  4. Most helpful post
  5. Post whose success surprised you
  6. Post you felt didn’t get the attention it deserved
  7. Post that you are most proud of

After sharing these posts, the blogger then has to share the award with 5 other bloggers.

The 7 Random facts is pretty self-explanatory, and the blogger has to state 7 random things about himself/herself.

After reading Deeone’s post and commenting, I went over to my other mate Justin Mazza’s blog Mazzastick.com to see what he had been up to. I saw he had also taken up the 7 Links Challenge. When I reached the end of his post, I saw that Justin had also nominated me for the 7 Links Challenge!

I had to take up the challenge now! :-)

My 7 Posts

Most beautiful post

I’ve selected the post My experiments with change because this post captures the true essence of the message I want to get across to people , which is you can change, and contains real examples of how I personally created change in my life.

Most popular post

My post popular post is The Lost Art Of Stepping Out Of Your Box, which is a guest post at Stuart Mill’s blog Unlock The Door. Up until now it has got 67 comments! Thanks to everyone for making it the most popular one.

Most controversial post

I’ve selected Forgiveness is a key ingredient to freedom for this one. In a way, this post was quite beautiful and it has got a great reception from readers. However, I did have to think a few times before clicking the ‘Publish’ button in WordPress because it covered an area that is very sensitive to some.

Most helpful post

This post has to be my guest post entitled Meditating yourself to transformation at Zeenat Merchant-Syal’s blog Positive Provocations.

Post whose success surprised me

This one has to be If you know ‘why’ then will you focus on ‘how’. I did believe people would find it interesting, but I never expected it to get the amount of attention it has.

Post I felt didn’t get the attention it deserved

I felt What Stutterers can learn from Entrepreneurs didn’t get the attention it deserved. With this post it was a message to other people who stuttered that if I can become an entrepreneur, then so can they. However, it hasn’t had many visits except from my friend Ruth Zive! Thanks Ruth.

Post I’m most proud of

Ten Tactics to Deal With Stammering. This post was a strong message to people who stutter, that there were many things they can do to improve their lives.

7 Random Facts

1. I’m red-green colour blind.

2. I’m left handed.

3. Some people think I’m extroverted but I’m really very introverted.

4. Some who know me to an introvert don’t know I can be extroverted.

5. I love accents, especially American ones!

6. If I wake up after 9 am I think I’ve wasted too much of a day.

:-) Your response to the 7 links challenge is terrific. I’ve read most of the posts you’ve mentioned and I am about to head off to read the ones I haven’t. I enjoy your style of writing, Hiten, because it reassures, soothes and conveys “it is all going to be okay, and you’re going to come out of it fine and fit”.

By the way, when I wrote my latest post on my blog, I was definitely thinking of a post I read on your site about limiting beliefs.

“Forgiveness is a key ingredient to freedom” – this is a beautiful post. Simply because we really all want to be ideal, emotionally, yet find it grates on our nerves when we’re unable to come to terms with certain situations, whether it is justified or not. Personally I think it is lack of closure that freaks us out and has us dwelling on it for a lot longer than we should.

:-) I am color-blind too. And I become speechless sometimes. Really. And those 7 random facts could easily be about me.

Glad I came here. You have a great weekend ahead!

      Hi Vidya,

I’m really glad you liked my response to the 7 Links Challenge! I hope you enjoyed reading the posts you hadn’t read up until now.

The point you made about getting freaked out by the lack of closure with situations that hurt us, makes a lot of sense to me. It’s like we get confused at not knowing really how to deal with what happened to us and how to deal with those others who were involved. In that regards forgiveness is way to be bring about that closure, as difficult as it can be.

It’s interesting to know you’re colour-blind too Vidya. I first found out when I was around 10. A eye specialist would come into school to test the all the kid’s eyes, and I would have to read out these numbers which were embedded inside these small coloured dots. I could only read a few numbers into the book and then couldn’t see any other numbers. So, I was diagnosed as being colour-blind! :-) I used to also pick up a brown crayon thinking it was red!

And you know I can believe the 7 random facts could easily be about you as well. I firmly believe that we connect with people who are on similar energy levels as ourselves. And this probably explains why we’ve become good friends so quickly! :-)

Thanks for commenting Vidya. It’s always great to see you here and I really appreciate your support.

      Hi Veeh,

Thank you so much for dropping by and leaving your comment. I hope you found the other posts interesting. ‘Ten Tactics to Deal With Stammering’ is from a long while back and when I was putting together this list, it made me realise how much this blog and indeed I have changed! :-)

I have to confess I’m not very good at drawing! I’m not very creative in the artistic sense, unlike someone I know, i.e. you! :-) My brain is fairly logical, coming from a computing background, so it takes some effort to get those creative juices flowing!

Thanks for reading my work and for your support Veeh. I much appreciate it, my friend.

    Congratulations Hiten!

Deeone has indeed chosen the right person for taking up the 7 link challenge, and am glad the torch is being passed around to others as well. I think this is indeed a wonderful way to shuffle up your older blogs and let them see the light of day! When I took up the challenge, I was lucky as I didn’t really have those many posts to consider, and I do wonder how do people with many posts manage to handle it!

While I have read most of your posts, there are still 2-3 from the list I need to read, and would be doing that soon after here- I think your post at Stuart’s blog was wonderful, so was the one on meditation at Zeenat’s- great going!

I didn’t know you were left handed- I guess we don’t generally assume that about a person we haven’t met in person :) And nice to know that you are an early riser too, though do you get up that early on weekends too :)

Nice list of nominees though I don’t know most of them and would need to check them out.

Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend :)

    Hi Harleena,

    Thank you so much!

I first heard of the 7 Links Challenge on your blog a short while ago, when you participated.

I was really excited when Deeone nominated me but I did have to spend some time reading up on the challenge, to make sure I understood it properly! :-)

Yes, I can understand what you mean about it being easier with less posts. It wasn’t that bad for me. Although I’ve been blogging for around 4 years, I’ve only started blogging properly for about 6 months in terms or relationship building and commenting at other blogs. I’ve also had to expand beyond the stuttering community to help grow my blog. So, in that sense most of my best posts have been recent.

I really hope you liked the 2-3 posts you hadn’t read until now. I really do appreciate you following me around the blogosphere and supporting my guest posts. Thank you Harleena.

Yes, I’m a leftie and I have to admit I get up early at the weekends too! :-) Although I have become a little relaxed recently. To me waking up at 8:30 am is sleeping in!

How about you? Do you wake up a little later on the weekends?

    Thanks for commenting Harleena! :-)

    Hi Hiten,
You may be nominated several more times for this award. I will have to check out the posts that you mentioned here.

The random facts are always my favorite part to read. How did you find out that you are red green color blind? I was nominated like 5 times before I finally wrote my 7 links challenge. You are much quicker than me. :)

      Hi Justin,

What I found quite difficult was selecting which posts to put in what category, as I felt the same posts could have been put into more than one category.

Yeah, the random facts of others are quite amusing!

I found out I was colour blind when I was around 10 at school. This eye specialist would come into school to test the kids’ eyes. We would have to read numbers which were inside dots of colours. I could only see a few numbers and the rest just looked like blurred dots. The other kids could read all the numbers!

I hope you liked the posts I listed Justin!

Thanks for commenting my friend. :-)

My dad is color blind and he found out when he went to school to be an electrician (you have to know the color of the wires). He didn’t know until he was in his college years! That’s really interesting about how you found out.I never got eye exams when I was a kid!

          Hi Bellaisa,

Thanks for sharing the story about how your dad found out he was colour blind.

Did he go ahead and become an electrician?

In a way I was glad I had the eye tests when I was a kid. Otherwise I would have been totally confused about why I wasn’t getting my colours right!

I believe the colour blind gene comes from the mother. The mother is usually a carrier and passes on the gene to a son. My late uncle from my mum’s family was also colour blind, so he must have got the gene from my nan! :-)

          Thanks for commenting Bellaisa!

    Good day Hiten,

My apologies for being late to the challenge, mate! :) I came over to see what your latest post was and to my surprise it was the 7 links! I’m super stoked that you took me up on it buddy! I also see that Justin nominated you as well. YAY! GO HITEN!! You’re very deserving of them both, my friend.

I’ll have to go through your links you’ve shared, because I haven’t had the opportunity to read many of your writings. Due in part that we’ve only known one another a little over a month now, I believe. So I’m definitely excited that this challenge allowed you to pick some of the ones that you would recommend. I think that’s the beauty of this challenge really. Don’t you?

Loved the random facts too, man. :) You noted some great facts that we would’ve never guessed. I remember Justin writing about your neat English accent, so it’s quite surprising that you enjoy American accents. I’m sure there are just as many Americans (myself included) that enjoy yours over our own. :D I guess that makes sense though, huh? :)

Much like you, if I spend too much time in bed, I feel like I am missing out on what I could get done. The latest I’ll stay in bed is 7 a.m.. After that I’m rolling out and getting the day started. However, for me, even 7 is a bit late. What time do you normally start your day?

Of the bloggers you mentioned, I’m only familiar with Melanie and Rob. And I’ve only had the opportunity to visit Rob’s site. Nonetheless, a hearty congrats to each of them.

This was great man! You did wonderful on the challenge, my friend. I’m so glad I stopped in to check up on you. Cheers mate! I hope you’re having a great week! :)

      Hi Deeone,

Not a problem whatsoever, mate! :-) I always appreciate you dropping by here and it’s always wonderful to hear from you!

I’m still quite chuffed to have been nominated by you and Justin too! I hope you had a chance to read some of the posts and found some helpful stuff in them.

Deeone, you know it’s really weird. You’re right. We’ve only known each other for over a month, or so but it feels like I’ve known you for years. You have a special gift to make others feel comfortable, very quickly.

I agree, the beauty of the challenge is in it allows one to revive old posts, which others can enjoy now. Had it not been for the challenge, I don’t think I would have ever done this, so thank you Deeone! :-)

I’ve got you to thank for the 7 Random Facts Challenge!

How did you come up with this idea?

Yes, I love American accents. I know American people like British accents too. I speak with a regional Leicester accent. I can remember the first time I came to the States in 2003 for a summer school at Dartmouth College, and the American students kept saying my accent was posh. :-) I was like, no way is it posh! :-)

It’s cool to hear you’re an early bird too! I usually start work at 8:30 am. I usually do my best work earlier on in the day. I know some people who can work late into the night, but this isn’t my preference.

Thanks again for nominating me for the 2 challenges Deeone and thanks for your comment. It’s great to see you.

      Cheers! :-)
