How to Tell If You Are Destined For Success

Success can mean different things to different people. For instance, one person might define success as passing a difficult exam. Another person might define success as running a profitable company. Yet another individual might define it as overcoming a particular fear. Similarly, you too define success in your unique ways.

Are you currently finding it difficult to succeed in an aspect of life?

Below are a list of certain traits, attitudes and views that are universal to people who are destined for success. You might already have these, in which case you need to remind yourself of your strengths and continue with your life goals and plans.

You have strong persistence

Do you ever do an activity and have a strong desire to get it done, no matter what? Do you enjoy breaking down barriers that come your way, so that get your jobs done? If so, you have a strong sense of persistence, which is a very powerful trait to have.

Don’t forget you have the ability to persist and use it to overcome any challenge you are currently facing.

You can easily connect with people

People skills are vital for various types of success. When you work collaboratively with others, you not only increase the chances of your success; in the process you help other people do the same – this is a win-win situation.

If you can easily create rapport with most people you come into contact with, whatever their background, you have a great skill at your disposal.

How can your people skills help you to increase your ability to succeed?

You have a desire for a better world

Another sign you have the ability to be successful, is if you look around the environments and situations you find yourself in, and have visions for a better world.

Not only do you imagine a better world, you also have a strong urge to act and do something about it.

What piece of action can you take today that will contribute to making a difference in your life and in the lives of others?

You are optimistic by default

If you continuously are able to see the good in what you do and can quickly get over setbacks by thinking positively again, then you have the ability to be optimistic.

Being able to be optimistic in times of adversity means you can quickly get back onto the path that will ultimately result in success for you.

Are you currently thinking negatively? If so, turn on your ability now to switch to optimism.

You are unafraid to walk the extra mile

If you love working hard, and have no issue with working extra hours then you have a strong work ethic. A strong work ethic means you gain satisfaction from doing a good job and understand that the benefits of work will enhance your skills and character.

How can you use your ability to take the initiative, so that you bring yourself closer to success?

  1. Hi Hiten,

I agree with your opening lines – success can mean different things to different people, which IS very true. What the meaning of success is to you, might not be the same for me.

Oh yes…I think I fit into the slot of doing my best to get things done, and sometimes I overlook or tend to neglect things I shouldn’t, which I know is bad 😉

I agree with you that while working together with others, you increase your, and their chances of success. I guess that’s why it’s suggesed to us as kids to stay in the company of achievers, because then you also strive hard to be more like them, or you are in healthy competition I’d say – and this brings out the best in you.

I think when you can make a positive difference in the world through your own way, whether it’s through your actions or words, you are making a difference to the lives of many. That’s the main reason I started my blog, and perhaps sharing my experiences and what I learn along the way with others, help me do that.

One does work hard and that’s good for achieving success too, but going overboard at times can be bad, and I think we all are guilty of that sometime or the other, isn’t it?

I think the measure of success should be our own ability to do our best for the day, and wind up each night feeling content and happy with what you have done during the day. That’s the way I see success 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice weekend 🙂

    1. Hi Harleena,

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment!

Indeed, the definitions of success can vary amongst people. Similarities can be found in the attitudes and principles, which when applied can support us in achieving our individual successes.

Absolutely, I can relate to the point you made about giving our best, yet neglecting other areas. In this sense, it is important to ensure we maintain a work-life balance as best as we can.

Yes, I agree that our blogs are wonderful platforms to contribute to making a positive difference in the world. The way the internet has empowered people to do this is extraordinary.

I liked the way you defined measuring success through feeling happy and content at the end of the day. I wholeheartedly agree.

Have a great week ahead, Harleena! 🙂

  2. Hello Hiten, as someone whose motto for many years was, “Failure is not an option,” this is a topic that hits close to home. 🙂 First, I agree that success is defined differently, so anyone who cares about success needs to think about what success means to them personally and why being successful is so important. Beyond that, I’d add that passion for something, e.g., a cause, is a key to success. Also, unwavering belief in oneself is important also. Not in a ego-centric way, but belief that one has what it takes to be successful.

    1. Hi Alice,

The motto you have used over the years certainly is an empowering one. By viewing failure as not even being an option, we can begin to doubt that failure even exists. I’ve adopted the NLP principle which is “there is no failure, only feedback’ and have found it to be a great resource when times get challenging.

Many thanks for sharing two additional ways, to achieve success; namely through have a strong passion for something and also a powerful belief in oneself. Indeed, as you quite rightly said, one can have such experiences while still keeping the ego in check.

Have a wonderful week, my friend! 🙂

  3. Hi Hiten, Thank you for another insightful post! I especially love that you included a commitment to making the world better. This is very important to me personally in defining success, and I find that it provides a mission in life, which can inspire the motivation to do the all of the other things you mention.

    1. Hi CJ,

I’m really glad you enjoyed the post!

Many thanks for sharing about how making the world a better place is important to you personally, when defining success. Like you, I find it certainly does give us a powerful purpose and can be used as a huge source of motivation to take positive action.

Many thanks for commenting, CJ and have a wonderful week!

  4. Hiten,

Great points on success. I like how you pointed out that success is relative to different people. Sometimes it is too easy to only think of success in some of the “grand” terms of the super-successful people we read about and see on TV, when in reality many average people achieve great success on a daily basis.

Anyhow, here are two things I think are important to success.

Planning: you need goals to achieve, and a plan to get there. Success needs to be for completion of something, after all. Even if it is only the success of meeting your PLAN to get up in the morning, make your bed and face the day.

Action: Along with planning and goals, I think you need to take action. Wishing things would happen just isn’t enough to achieve success. You need to get out there and get it done.

    1. Hi SJ,

I’m really glad you liked the points in the post!

Indeed, we all can have our own ways of defining as success. I loved what you wrote about how normal people are being successful every day.

Many thanks for adding additional aspects, which are important for success. Absolutely, you’re spot on. Having goals and plans for their achievement is very important. So is what you wrote about taking action. Without action one will be unable to see any type of progress. Otherwise, one does what you said, which is wishing that success would happen.

Many thanks for commenting, SJ and for adding so much more value to this post!

  5. These are some great points. I’ve found success (Whatever we desire) will require hard work. We have to be willing to work hard until we see the results we want. Thank you for writing a fantastic post!

    1. Hi Dan,

I’m so glad you liked the points, my friend and thank you so much for sharing your experiences of this area.

What you wrote about success requiring hard work is so true. There really is no easy way. As you quite rightly said, we need to be willing to put in the effort. However, with the right type of effort, success is inevitable.

Many thanks for commenting, Dan and have a great weekend!

      1. Yes, it has to be the “right type of work.” Strategic work in our areas of strengths, passions, and purpose! Thank you, I’m going to be doing some writing. I hope you have a great weekend!

        1. Hi Dan,

I just loved the way you defined strategic work as work in areas of our strengths, passions and purpose. This is great.

          Many thanks, Dan!

  6. I think we are all capable of achieving the extraordinary, but the natural way of life is to ensure that this cannot happen or the extraordinary will simply become the ordinary and we’re back to where we started.

Only a select few can achieve greatness, BUT the fantastic thing is that this life is open to anyone who wants it. There can’t be 7 billion successful people at any one time but there is more than enough room on this planet you, me and everyone else reading this blog to become a success.

To me, a successful person is always one who is pushing themselves to become the person they see in their minds eye.

    1. Hi Jamie,

Indeed, as you quite rightly said, we are all capable of being extraordinary but life is such that not all would ever reach their true potential, even if they wanted to. There are so many people in the world for whom, just basic survival is the main task to deal with.

I loved what you wrote about how there is more than enough room for anyone wishing to be a success, to be so. The way you defined a successful person was great. When one constantly has a vivid picture in his/her mind’s eye of the person the individual wants to become, it has a powerful way of attracting us to the desired person.

Many thanks for sharing some great insights, Jamie. Have a great weekend.

  7. Having a positive outlook and being able to work hard are my two favorites on this list. There’s no doubt that positivity makes the journey to success so much better. And having the ability to work hard always pays off. No question about it.

Something else that ties in with hard work is persistence. When someone can continue on regardless of the trials and tribulations they make success inevitable.

    1. Hi Kevin,

I’m really glad you could resonate with the points about having a positive outlook and working hard. Just these two alone can be a powerful combination.

I just loved what you wrote about having persistence. Having the ability to persist can at times be the single most important factor, which differentiates those who succeed in life from those who quit when the going gets tough.

Many thanks for commenting, Kevin and have a great weekend.

  8. hey Hiten – Please ignore this post if you received my previous submission. For me, I’ve found persistence to be the key to success. We can usually only win the game or the race if we keep going instead of quitting. At the same time, sometimes things are so futile we should quit and start over. Being able to tread that balance is key and also where wisdom lies.

OTherwise, I like relationships and staying positive. Building strong relationships with people is helpful not only to get things done but to have stronger friendships in life. Stronger relationships don’t only help us succeed but fulfill us. And we could all say plenty on staying positive but I’ll simply say that we have two options in every situation – viewing the situation in a positive light or a negative. People who view it in a more positive light, believe there’s more that can be done to improve the situation or make it better. People who view things negatively usually don’t take any action.

    1. Hi Vishnu,

Thank you so much for writing such a wonderful comment, my friend!

I can definitely resonate with what you said about persistence being key to success. This is so true. Indeed, the biggest difference between those who succeed in various endeavours from those who don’t, is the ability to persist.

I really appreciate what you wrote about the importance of relationships with regards to building friendships. It would certainly be a lonely world without having good friends.

Absolutely, as you say, it really does boil down to viewing situations as being positive or negative. I agree that looking at situations positively really does help to improve them. It allows people to continue seeing possibilities.

Many thanks for sharing some great advice, Vishnu and for adding so much more to this post. Hope you’re having a good weekend.

  9. Hi Hiten,

Success means different things to different people as everyone have their own yardstick. I completely agree with you on the point. Success needs to be earned, it can never be gifted to anyone neither can it be bought anywhere, which makes it so different from any other tangible or intangible entity in this world.

Apart from all the points added by you, I believe that accepting and not getting disheartened at FAILURES is an important virtue found in every successful person. We cannot expect to be the winners with our first approach. We would meet many events of failure on our success journey and we need to learn and move ahead by strengthening ourselves.

Even looking back in the pages of history, we have thousands of examples where some of the most successful people have failed lot many times in the beginning but they never gave up and finally success came down to their feet. We must be strong enough to accept failures and understand that it is a part of our success story.

Thanks Hiten for picking up such a deep motivating topic, Have a great weekend ahead, keep writing and keep motivating. 🙂

    1. Hi Ashutosh,

You shared some brilliant advice in your comment, my friend.

What you wrote about success needing to be earned is so true. Indeed, it cannot be given as a gift, neither can it bought. One needs to get to down to some serious hard work, persist and have faith that eventually they will see the results he/she wants.

I loved what you wrote about how every successful person has the quality of not feeling down after having failures. This is such a powerful quality that differentiates those who make it, to those who quit when it gets tough. As you quite rightly said, we will fail many times and we need to keep on learning from our experiences and continue to make positive strides.

What you said about how we need to be strong makes so much sense. We can develop our strength of character through making mistakes, as it makes us more resilient for the next time.

Many thanks for writing such a wonderful comment, Ashutosh and for adding so much more to this post. Have a great week ahead! 🙂

  10. Hi Hiten,

Great post, my friend. Success is important to all of us – depending on our definition of that success. I loved your very first point – You have strong persistence. It doesn’t matter what success I am looking for, health, happiness, great family life, money, creativity… for me in the end it all comes down to how bad I want it and how persistent I will be in my pursuit of it.

My greatest successes (as I would define them) have come from keeping my eye on the ball and sticking to it no matter what. Losing that focus through distraction, lack of passion etc. is what ends a would be success for me.

Thank you so much for your thoughts on this subject – it gave me a lot to think about today!

    1. Hi Karen,

Many thanks for writing such an energetic comment. I was becoming increasingly inspired as I was reading through your words.

I loved what you wrote about persistence and how in the end it all comes down to how badly we want something and the persistence we have to keep going. I totally agree.

I can really appreciate what you wrote about remaining focused. When one is both persistent and focused, success is inevitable.

Thanks very much for adding so much more to this post, my friend. Have a great weekend.
