The language you use

Really can determine the type of day you might have.

Read out the following two sentences to yourself:

“I hate stammering in front of my professor.”

“I don’t like stammering in front of my professor.”

Out of the two, the first sentence is the one which is most emotionally charged. It’s the word ‘hate’ that does it. The words ‘don’t like’ in the second sentence are not particularly helpful either. However, compared to the word ‘hate’ they are better, with less emotion attached to them.

The words you use can directly impact how you feel. Language really is that important.

You have numerous words at your disposal, which you can use to describe your experiences. Choosing those words that will help maintain your mental balance is a worthwhile activity.
